Mackie’s 2018 Charity Partner - Muscular Dystrophy UK
10th January 2018
We are delighted to be joining up with our first official Charity partner and to announce that we’ll be fundraising for Muscular Dystrophy UK over the course of 2018.
We will be raising funds for the charity in a number of ways, including taking part in the charity’s ‘go Orange day’, running bake sales and completing sponsored challenges.
One of the most exciting projects we will be working on in partnership with Muscular Dystrophy UK is a limited edition packet of crisps that will help raise additional funds, the flavour of which is yet to be revealed!
We are also hoping to replicate a successful fundraising event that Mackie’s of Scotland hosted in 2010, an open farm charity day which included tours of the ice cream factory and an auction, and raised over £45,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.
Muscular dystrophy comes in many forms but causes muscles to weaken and waste over time, leading to increasing disability. There is currently no cure for the condition and Muscular Dystrophy UK is leading the fight to change this.
George Taylor, Managing Director of Mackie’s at Taypack, commented on the partnership, saying: “This is a cause close to our heart that affects and has affected thousands of families each year, including our own. This is why Mackie’s at Taypack is proud to support Muscular Dystrophy UK. Every pound we raise will help to support families as they live through the challenges of daily life with a progressive muscle wasting condition”.
In the past George Taylor and his team at Mackie’s Crisps raised over £4,500 for Muscular Dystrophy UK by undertaking an 82-mile cycle, something they are looking to build on in 2018 with an ultimate aim of raising at least £10,000 for the charity.
Robert Meadowcroft, Chief Executive of Muscular Dystrophy UK, added:
“We are delighted to have been chosen by Mackies at Taypack as their charity partner for 2018. The partnership will provide much needed funds for Muscular Dystrophy UK and our fight to beat muscular dystrophy through support both for cutting edge research to accelerate the steps to treatments and also with the provision of high quality care and support from the time of diagnosis. “
